Nancy Connery is the founder and principal of Connery Consulting, the premier human capital consultancy that partners with the fastest-growing technology companies of all time. Her career spans HR management and operations positions for 30+ years.

Nancy Connery is the founder and principal of Connery Consulting, the premier human capital consultancy that partners with the fastest-growing technology companies of all time. Her career spans HR management and operations positions for 30+ years.

 

Nancy began her career by partnering with Marc Benioff to build two Oracle divisions. Marc later recruited her as Salesforce’s founding VP of HR and fifth employee. She built its industry-leading HR infrastructure for seven years.

 

In 2007, Nancy began helping entrepreneurs enable peak performance with people via Connery Consulting. In 2021, she co-founded OpenComp to help high-growth companies confidently make better business decisions with compensation intelligence.

 

Nancy has personally advised unicorns Airbnb, Dropbox, Instacart, Facebook, Medium, Twitter and Zendesk. She sits on the Board of Directors for OpenComp and The Branson School. She is a strong supporter of breaking the cycle of homelessness with Compass Family Services, and actively works with the University of Colorado to place college athletes in tech companies.

Leadership Team

Clarissa Yu
Managing Director

Clarissa joined Connery Consulting in 2016 as the first hire in Austin, TX. Throughout her tenure, she built the talent research and sourcing team, led transformative operational projects, and partnered with dozens of clients as their trusted recruiting leader. She has managed key recruitment accounts and led full-cycle recruiting efforts for startup clients, venture capital, and private equity firms.

As Managing Director, Clarissa oversees Connery’s global talent function and internal operations. She played a foundational role in scaling the recruitment function to include sourcing, full-cycle recruiting, interim talent leadership, and executive search capabilities. She leads a team of 30+ recruitment consultants across the US and continues to partner directly with clients around the world.

Clarissa is a Seattle native and University of Washington graduate. She began her career with the HR benefits team at Microsoft. Outside of the office, Clarissa loves to cook, enjoy the Austin food scene, and spend time with her husband and their dog Tango.

Laura Rice
Director, Human Resources

As a Director of HR at Connery Consulting Laura Rice has over a decade of experience implementing strategic HR initiatives for the likes of Anchorfree (now Pango), Betterworks, Calm, Chan Zuckerberg, Crux Informatics, HotelTonight, Landed and SambaTV. Laura has been instrumental at Connery in rolling out numerous Compliance and HR Operational Reviews, overseeing strategic re-orgs, designing and implementing career leveling and job architecture, conducting 360s, coaching and training. Prior to Connery, Laura worked in HR for a leading financial services company and for one of Asia’s most prominent internet companies.

Laura’s pragmatic approach and “can-do attitude” have proven time and time again that she is an outstanding advisor and confidant to leading C-level executives in technology. There is no situation too tough for Laura to navigate, and she does it with extreme grace and compassion.

As a graduate of Cornell University Laura studied Industrial and Labor Relations. She has her PHR and SHRM-CP certifications as well. Laura played an active role in supporting victims of sexual assault during her volunteer work with Vera House. Today Laura and her husband are avid supporters of Doctors Without Borders. In her free time, Laura enjoys yoga, travel, and reading. Her favorite adventures over the years have been exploring Africa, Ireland and Italy.

Scott Kirsch
Director, TalentAQ

Leading Connery's contingency arm, TalentAQ, Scott has been a part of the Connery team since 2018. He started on the embedded team as a Recruitment Consultant and Account Manager, consulting at fast-paced, high-growth companies including Uber, Rippling, and Luminar Technologies.

As Director of TalentAQ, Scott has tripled the team size and expanded our client base to support companies that are still in stealth mode to publicly traded companies and everything in between.

He brings over 10 years of recruiting experience with a background in both agency and internal recruitment. Prior to Connery, he led the recruitment and HR for an IoT start-up in Michigan.

Scott loves to explore national parks and go on hikes with his wife, Natalie, and dog, Belle.

David Rubin
Recruiting Manager

David joined Connery in March of 2021 as a Senior Recruitment Consultant with experience hiring for all departments across the board. Between his time at Khoros and Bazaarvoice he has filled roles ranging from Sales Development Reps and Data Analysts up to Directors of Engineering, VP’s of Enterprise Sales and everything in between. 

Over the last year David has transitioned from full-time consulting at a Healthcare Technology company to managing and coaching a team of consultants. His experience with process improvement, candidate experience, diversity hiring and relationship development gives him the tools to grow a strong team of incredible Recruiters. 

Outside of work, David enjoys travel, sports, music, movies and board games. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2012, and still considers Canada his second home.

Emmy Robles
Recruiting Manager

Emmy is a Texas Native based in Austin, Texas. She joined Connery Consulting August 2017 as a Recruitment Analyst and has grown into a Recruiting Manager. She is very passionate about building strong relationships with her clients and her team’s growth trajectory. She has experience  working on technical and non-technical roles but her expertise lies within G&A where she filled over 100 positions at her client, Instacart. Her other clients include Nauto and Yeti.

Prior to Connery, Emmy worked at a small Austin based start-up where she discovered her passion for recruiting. Following that, she did full-cycle recruiting at a health insurance company. 

Outside of work, Emmy enjoys spending time with her husband and son, watching series,competing in Peloton rides, and exploring Austin’s food scene. 

Michelle Barberini
Recruiting Manager

As a Recruiting Manager, Michelle has over two decades of experience managing and building out teams and implementing new processes to growing organizations. Between her time at Merrill Lynch and Because Market, she has filled roles ranging from Executive Assistant to VP of Engineering up to CFO and has led the full cycle recruiting efforts throughout these companies. 

Michelle joined Connery Consulting in 2021 and works remote on the SF Peninsula. She recently transitioned from being a manager and full time consultant at a Carbon Tech company to managing and developing a team of consultants. 

Michelle is a SF Peninsula native and SF State graduate. She started her career managing and growing a team of EA’s at Merrill Lynch and has enjoyed growing teams ever since. Outside of the office, you can find Michelle trying to keep up with her three, very active, tween and teenage boys, her Australian Shepherd and enjoying peaceful, nightly walks with her husband.
